EMDR Basic Training entry criteria are set by EMDR Europe and explained below.
To be eligible for basic training you must
deliver 1-1 psychotherapy for a significant amount of your role
have the support of your clinical supervisor
have access to training cases throughout the training
be UK resident (if not you must contact your national EMDR Association to obtain permission to train on this UK course)
be accredited by an EMDR Europe approved professional association

You must accredited with the HCPC for one of the following professions
Clinical Psychologists
Counselling Psychologists
Educational Psychologists
Forensic Psychologists

You must have one of the following
MRCPsych or equivalent (including Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in any psychiatric speciality) or
a) Complete both long and short psychotherapy cases (and)
b) Equivalent of three years full-time psychiatric experience (and)
c) Letter confirming above from line manager and sent to EMDR Training Provider

You must be registered with the NMC and be either a
Registered Mental Health Nurse or
Registered Learning Disability Nurse
You must also
have mental health training and can recognise and assess common mental health problems
have experience of working in a mental health setting
have 2 years+ experience of providing 1-1 psychotherapy

You must be registered with the HCPC and
have mental health training and can recognise and assess common mental health problems
have experience of working in a mental health setting
have 2 years+ experience of providing 1-1 psychotherapy

You must hold full accreditation by one of the following professional bodies:
BABCP
BACP
UKCP
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)
National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society Accredited Professional (NCPS Accredited Professional) grade
Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP) who are NCAC accredited
Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP)

You must:
be in the final year of your practitioner doctoral training, which is approved by the British Psychological Society
have a letter of recommendation from your clinical supervisor
You are eligible to begin EMDR Basic training but cannot qualify until your registration with the HCPC is confirmed.
To become an Accredited Pracitioner you must:
successfully complete the 3 parts of Basic Training ( 7 days)
use EMDR therapy with at least three clients in your clinical practice during training
practice EMDR under supervision
After sufficient supervision from an accredited EMDR Europe Consultant and further experience (at least 25 clients), you can apply to become an Accredited Practitioner.
